Here’s a timeline of key events in the 2018 election for South Dakota governor.

Aug. 27, 2015: State Rep. G. Mark Mickelson, a Republican, files statement of organization for a political action committee. He lists Karl Adam as chairman, Russ Janklow as co-chairman and Christine Erickson as treasurer.

Feb. 1, 2016: Mickelson files year-end report of 2015 campaign finances for his political action committee. It shows $583,244.05 income and $24,602.26 expenses.

June 1, 2016: Mickelson files pre-primary report for his political action committee. It shows $41,650 income and $3,417.68 expenses.

Oct. 27, 2016: Mickelson files pre-general report for his political action committee. It shows $297,747.93 income and $47,217.34 expenses.

Nov. 14, 2016: U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem, a Republican, files statement of organization to be a candidate for governor. She lists Ted Hustead as treasurer.

Nov. 15, 2016: State Attorney General Marty Jackley, a Republican, files statement of organization to be a candidate for governor. He lists Jason Glodt as treasurer.

Feb. 3, 2017: Mickelson files year-end report for his political action committee. It shows $25,500 income and $868,128.16 expenses, including returns of $867,523.46 to previous donors.

Feb. 6. 2017: Jackley files second statement of organization, listing Russ Janklow as treasurer.

Feb. 6, 2017: Jackley files year-end report of his 2016 campaign finances.

Feb. 6, 2017: Noem files year-end report of her 2016 campaign finances.

May 31, 2017: State Senate Democratic leader Billie Sutton files statement of organization to be a candidate for governor.

Jan. 22, 2018: Sutton files year-end report of his 2017 campaign finances.

Jan. 25, 2018: Mickelson terminates political action committee. Final report shows $5,075 income and $9,851.54 expenses, including $7,523.35 contribution to “Tuition4TechStudents” group.

Jan. 26, 2018: Jackley files year-end report of his 2017 campaign finances.

Jan. 26, 2018: Noem files year-end report of her 2017 campaign finances.

May 21, 2018: Jackley files pre-primary report of his 2018 campaign finances. He shows balance of $570,328.03.

May 21, 2018: Noem files pre-primary report of her 2018 campaign finances. She shows balance of $1,015,447.07.

May 21, 2018: Sutton files pre-primary report of his 2018 campaign finances. He shows balance of $878,944.32.

June 5, 2018: Republican primary election.
