Sneaker Con is an event of choice for sneakers around the world who want to buy, sell and trade some of the most sought-after sneakers in the game. On Saturday, March 16th, thousands of sneaker fans will head to the Cleveland Huntington Convention Center. , in Ohio, for the latest edition of Sneaker Con.

Approximately 20,000 pairs of sneakers are sold at Sneaker Con events. Despite the efforts of the organizer, some of them are fake. (The shoes sold by Sneaker Con are themselves fully authenticated.)

Footwear is one of the most counterfeit products in the $ 461 billion "fake" industry. To that end, Sneaker Con has become an expert in locating counterfeit sneakers.

"When we look at these shoes, we take a science-based approach to deepen the concept of what constitutes a shoe. We weigh the sneakers, we get color codes for the shoes. We are really going deep into what is inside the sneaker. We look deeply into what is behind the insole, how the shoe is sewn; we have photos that fit some sewing patterns, "said Alan Vinogradov, co-founder of Sneaker Con, at Yahoo Finance.

So how difficult is it to spot a false pair of kicks? Vinogradov has put YFi PM, Yahoo Finance presenter Zack Guzman and journalist Sibile Marcellus to the test (see video above). Vinogradov brought six pairs of sneakers: a real and a fake pair of Yeezys, Jordan 1 Unions, and a black and red (grass foot) Jordan 1. Both correctly identified the fake pair of Yeezys, but have been puzzled as to the identification. the most counterfeit shoe in the world, the Air Jordan I. Things like sewing, the color and even the smell of the shoe can be used to spot a fake. According to Vinogradov, the glue used to bind the shoes omits a specific smell.

Vinogradov's passion for sports shoes began in his hometown of Brooklyn, New York. The sneakers that Michael Jordan wore during his last season with the Chicago Bulls obsessed him.

"Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, was the norm. When I went to college, I had all the Jordan 13s and just followed Mr.J during the playoffs and I was really very motivated to put that shoe on my feet. It was at a time when I was exchanging shoes at school, not realizing I was really in the sneaker culture at the time because it did not really exist. "

Vinogradov's passion for sports shoes would take him to Japan, where he immersed himself in the emerging culture of footwear, exposing himself to the Supreme and Bathing Ape brands, which were imposed abroad.

In 2009, Vinogradov's vision was to create an event that would bring together the entire sneaker community. Later that year, the first Sneaker Con was held in a comedy club in New York.

The company also has a digital platform in full expansion with the Sneaker Con app, which is a mobile extension of its online market. The future announces well for Sneaker Con. The event took place everywhere, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Vancouver, Canada. And in May, the event will be held for the first time in China.
