WHAT TO LOOK

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics will release data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The Fed often views CPI data as a key indicator of inflation. Given that the minutes of the December meeting of the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) revealed that some non-voting members were reluctant to raise rates due to concerns about inflationary pressure, data from the IPC for December will be even more monitored.

Economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect "basic" consumer prices, excluding the cost of food and gas, to have risen 2.2% in December from a year ago. The Fed is targeting inflation of 2%.
